This is something that has started happening after the improvement to allow you to switch which card you're picking as your first card.

If you are the last person to pick a card, and then your first move is to meld the remaining card in your hand, two things happen:
1) You get an error message at the top of the screen saying "This action is impossible right now."
2) When you then attempt to meld it again, it lets you meld, but it places a red border around the card (the same border that indicates which of your two initial cards you've picked). That border persists on the card.
