dexdouglasWelcome to Battle Of LITS, a 2 player abstract strategy game by NESTOR games. In this game, each player is assigned to X or O and they take turns putting a Tetromino piece (the L, I, T, or S) on the board in an attempt to have more of your own shapes visible at the end of the game.2licounts

dexdouglasThe first player can choose to place any piece anywhere on the board. Since they are playing as X, they are going to try and cover up some of the O shapes as their first turn and place an "I" on these 4 spaces. 3square_7_8

dexdouglasThe first player has placed an "I" here which covers up two of their opponents O's. The second player can choose to "Go first" and take that move for themselves, switching their shapes from O's to X's and giving the other player the disadvantage, or "Go Second" Keeping their original shape and placing the next piece on the board. dexdouglasAfter the first piece is played, you always have to play adjacent to a previously played piece (diagonal is not adjacent). Pieces of the same shape cannot be touching and any move that would create a 2x2 square of covered board is not allowed. dexdouglasPlace an L piece in this space. You can do so by highlighting the purple spaces that create the piece you are trying to place. Click on the 4 spaces highlighted starting with the X directly underneath the yellow "I" , then select "Place Piece". Minimize the tutorial window if you're having trouble viewing the game.3square_5_10

dexdouglasThe purple shaded squares are all of the available places a piece could be placed. The white squares are non-eligible spaces. Sometimes they are not eligible because they are too far away from adjacent pieces, but sometimes, like the O here, they are not eligible because putting a piece there would create a 2x2 square of covered board.1square_7_10

dexdouglasYou should do your best to balance between covering your opponents shapes as well as protecting your shapes. Use the rules to the best of your advantage. 2archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

The only other piece that could do that would be the L shape but we can't use it due to the rule about not placing two of the same shapes touching each other. dexdouglasYes! Straight up and down here covers the most X's. Good job! In the game, you can click the squares in whatever order you want but in this tutorial, you HAVE to click them in the numbered order (even though it looks a little funny).2square_5_7

dexdouglasScores are calculated in real time so you can always see who is winning by checking the number next to the star by the player names. Whoever has the higher number at the end of the game is the winner. 1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

dexdouglasDefense is just as important as offense. Place an S piece in the highlighted space. While it will only cover 1 of your opponents X's, it will prevent your opponent from covering up 4 of your O's!1tscounts

dexdouglasFinally, you can never pass your turn so near the end of the game, even if the only move available is to cover up several of your shapes on the board, you still have to make that move. Use the pieces to your advantage and don't let that happen to you! We will see our opponent cover up one of their pieces next turn.1archivecontrol_editmode_centercomment

dexdouglasThis is still a good move from our opponent as it saves 5 of their remaining X's but we got them to cover one of their own in the process. Always think about what piece you will place next and how it affects your opponents opportunities.2square_2_5
