Overview
Be the first to reach 21 points through taking or not taking tricks (according to the point distribution). Each round consists of 13 tricks.
At the beginning of a turn, a player plays a card. The second player must play a card of the same suit. If they cannot, they are free to play any card. The card that matches the suit of the decree (trump) card wins. If both cards are of the same suit, the card with higher rank wins. If no one has yet scored 21 or more points, a new round begins with a new decree. (Game options also allow playing to 16 points or 35 points.)
Cards with odd-numbered ranks have special abilities that can affect who wins the trick or a player's hand.
Scoring
The round ends after all 13 cards have been played from each player's hand (13 turns). The number of tricks taken by each player determines how many points are earned:

| 7 | Treasure | The winner of the trick receives 1 point for each 7 in the trick |
| 9 | Witch | When determining the winner of a trick with only one 9, treat the 9 as if it were in the trump suit |
| 11 | Monarch | When you lead this, if your opponent has the same suit, they must play either the 1 or the highest card in that suit |
